Privacy Policy
Last updated: 19 July 2026
Bankuru Services ("we", "us", "our") operates the Dharma mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and how it is used and protected when you use the App.
By using Dharma, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
Information We Collect
We collect the following categories of information:
- Account information — when you sign in with Google (Firebase Authentication), we receive your name, email address, and profile photo to create and identify your account.
- Usage data — your reading progress, bookmarks, last-read verse, and AI credit usage, stored against your account so your experience is consistent across sessions and devices.
- Chat & commentary content— questions you ask "Ask Dharma" and the verses/chapters you request AI commentary for. This text is sent to our backend and to our AI provider (Anthropic) solely to generate a response, and a history of this chat may be stored against your account so you can revisit past conversations.
- Subscription & purchase data — if you subscribe to a paid tier, purchase records are processed by Google Play Billing and RevenueCat to verify and manage your entitlement. We do not receive or store your payment card details — these are handled entirely by Google Play.
- Device & notification data — a push notification token, used to deliver reminders (e.g. daily verse) you opt into. You can disable notifications at any time from your device settings.
- Referral data — if you use or share a referral code, we store the association between referring and referred accounts to apply referral rewards.
How We Use Your Information
- To create and maintain your account and reading progress
- To generate AI commentary and chat responses via Anthropic's API
- To verify and manage subscriptions and AI credit entitlements
- To send reminders and notifications you've opted into
- To provide customer support when you contact us
- To maintain the security and integrity of the App
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use advertising SDKs or third-party analytics/tracking libraries in the App.
Third-Party Services
We rely on the following third-party services to operate Dharma:
- Firebase (Google) — authentication and, on our backend, Firestore database storage for account, subscription, chat, and referral records.
- Anthropic — processes verse/chapter text and your questions to generate AI commentary and chat responses. See Anthropic's Privacy Policy.
- RevenueCat — manages subscription entitlements across Google Play Billing.
- Google Play Billing — processes all subscription payments; we never see or store your payment details.
Our backend and the scripture content it serves are hosted on servers located in India.
Data Retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your profile, chat history, bookmarks, and referral data are permanently deleted from our systems, except where retention is required by law (e.g. transaction records for tax/accounting purposes).
Your Rights
You can, at any time:
- Delete your account and all associated data from within the App — go to Profile → Privacy → Delete Account.
- Request a copy of the data we hold about you by contacting us below.
- Disable notifications from your device's system settings.
- Cancel your subscription at any time via Google Play.
Children's Privacy
Dharma is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Security
We use industry-standard measures — including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) and Firebase Authentication — to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
